  • Address Resolution Protocol or ARP, for short, is one of the critical functions of the Internet Protocol Suite that is used to map Layer 2 MAC addresses to Layer 3 IP addresses. Since IP hosts also require each others' MAC (hardware) addresses for communication, ARP can be used as a layer of security.
