CCR2216: A New Sherrif's in Town!

Mikrotik Keeps Them Coming!

MikroTik’s hardware engineers and developers are seemingly engaged in a record-breaking competition. Why, you ask? Well, remember the CCR2116 that made headlines some time ago? Consider that old news! Meet MikroTik’s newest Cloud Core Router, the CCR2216-1G-12XS-2XQ!

Check out the video below for an introduction to this beast of a router from MikroTik:

So Good It’s Unreal!

The CCR2216 comes packing! Literally! With a 2 GHz 16-core ARM 64bit CPU, a DDR4 RAM of 16 GB, and a pair of M.2 slots that allow the increase of local storage, this router will most certainly set new performance records.

In terms of practicality and usage, this formidable piece of hardware takes you on a 100 Gigabit networking trip! This Ethernet router comes with 12 25G SFP28 ports, a pair of 100G QSFP28 ports, and a single 1G Ethernet port for hardware management.

What’s more, it comes with dual redundant power supplies that can be hot-swapped during maintenance, minimizing operation downtime.

Leaps and Bounds

The advances made by MikroTik’s recently-launched hardware, especially the CCR2116, have turned more than a few heads, and the CCR2216 looks quite promising in that aspect!

With a Marvell Prestera Aldrin2 switch-chip that provides four 25G lines, this router takes L3 Hardware Offloading to new heights, and consequently, improves its performance and speed against some of MikroTik’s strongest and most capable routers such as the favorite CCR1072!

Speaking of the CCR1072, another advantage of utilizing the CCR2216 is cutting costs. Wondering how? Well, both these devices use similar power supply units and SFP modules. As a result, if you already have one or more CCR1072s in place, you do not need to purchase new accessories.

Check out the layout below and see how the CCR2216-1G-12XS-2XQ can be used in a simulated network:

Before You Go…

The CCR2216-1G-12XS-2XQ is MikroTik’s newest flagship Ethernet router, and its performance upgrade compared to previous hardware serves to show a rapid shift toward more powerful devices that utilize greater processing power (e.g. ARM 64bit CPUs) for higher level functionality.

Now’s a good time to consider a network infrastructure upgrade. More and more devices are hitting the shelves that will soon replace older equipment.
